John Johnson-McElrath active in veteran’s affairs
John H. Johnson-McElrath died on November 12. He was born on September
13, 1942 in Atlantic City, N.J. to the late Jack I. Johnson and
Rose T. McElrath-Johnson. He was the eldest of two children.
At an early age his family relocated to Philadelphia where he attended
and graduated from a Roman Catholic high school. He attended Temple
University and worked at the Dupont chemical plant. He was inducted
into the armed forces in 1967 where he served two tours of active
duty in Vietnam and received multiple awards.
He relocated to Boston in 1973 and worked for the MBTA. He was very
active and committed to the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars of the
United States. He also had a strong passion for boats and always
loved sailing his boat “Sassea.” He was a member of
the National Boat Owner’s Association.
John is survived by his wife Ruth Johnson of Philadelphia and his
three children Jocelyn, John II and Jasmine McElrath all of Boston.
He leaves his grandchildren J’Karah and Khary Brown; his sister
Juliana Ward of Durham, NC; and his uncle Theodore Webster of Boston.
Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery. Donations in his memory
