Local activist and family liaison passes



Michael Long, political activist, youth advocate and family support liaison, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 4.

Michael attended Northeastern University and earned his master’s degree in education from Cambridge College. He worked tirelessly to offer support and comfort to youth and their families experiencing violence in the city of Boston. His mission was to improve the quality of life for communities of color in Boston.

Michael was born November 13, 1945 in Washington, Penn. to Howard Long and Dorothy Ward Long. He leaves his companion Mary Murray, his brothers and sisters James R. McDonald, Gilbert E. Long, Naomi Thomas, Patricia L. Burns, all of Penn. and Kim Downs of Bridewater. He also leaves his nieces and nephews, Dorothy N. Young, Helen J. Nichols, Rachel and David Harris, Tracey and Todd Kemp, Sheree Long, William and Tamara Thomas, Charles Haygood, Fredrick Haygood and Nathaniel Jackson.

Michael has ten great nieces and nephews, two great-great nieces and nephews, a host of god-children, adopted youth, aunts uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.

Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hyde Park.
