Distinguished community member killed in accident
Herman W. Daley, 41, of Boston
died Thursday, May 4 at Boston Medical Center as a result of falling
off the roof deck of his home in the South End. Not long ago, he
opened a branch of MetroCities Mortgage, serving as senior loan
officer. He believed that purchasing real estate was a profitable
investment and that the rewards of ownership were great.
Prior to MetroCities, he served as director at Deutsche Bank —
a Wall Street investment bank — for 13 years. He was the past
president and board member of the Worcester Square Area Neighborhood
Association, founding board member and head of Economic Restructuring
for the Washington Gateway Main Street program and served as chairman
of the board for the Boston Industrial Development Finance Authority.
In addition, he also served as chair of the board for Urban Dreams
Youth Development Program, as well as a member of the Boston Center
of Arts Board of Visitors.
In 1999, the Boston Jaycee’s, a volunteer organization for
young people between the ages of 21 and 40, recognized Daley with
the Ten Outstanding Young Business Leaders Award for his professional
and civic achievement.
Daley grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Boston Latin High
School. In 1986 he earned his Bachelor of Science from the Wharton
School at the University of Pennsylvania and in 1992, he earned
his Master of Science in finance and marketing from the Alfred P.
Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Daley leaves behind his wife Elisa and his parents, Sarah and Ronald
of Dorchester.
