Urban College loses professor to cancer

Dr. Grace Caines passed away on Monday, Sept. 25 at the age of 62. A much loved high-level faculty member at the Urban College of Boston, Caines served as the division chair of UCB’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) Degree Program for the Urban College of Boston, and was both a professor and administrator in this program for almost 15 years. She was also involved in many childcare provider networks and was an active member of her church and community.
Caines was more than a professor to her students, who adored her, and she in turn adored them. According to a UCB representative, the phones have been “ringing off the hook with people from the community expressing their condolences.” With more than 500 students in Caines’ program, UCB has arranged for grief counselors to console faculty, staff and students who are devastated by her death.
She is survived by her husband, William F. Caines, son, William Jr., mother, Mona Charles and several siblings. Her viewing was held last Friday at St. Cincotti Funeral Home in Medford and her interment took place Saturday at Medford’s St. Raphael Parish.
