A healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables is an important part of avoiding hypertension and lowering “bad” cholesterol. One local solution to getting fresh produce is to visit the Food Project’s Farmers’ Market at the Dudley Town Common. Open every Tuesday and Thursday from 3 – 7 PM through October, the Farmers’ Market serves the Dorchester and Roxbury communities.
The Market features food grown by local youth involved with the Food Project. Guided by The Food Project staff and Farmers’ Market Youth Interns, young people gain a better understanding of food security and business enterprise, building their skills in customer service, accounting and analysis from seed to sale.
This season, the Market will feature:
• Famous farm-fresh salsa and cooking demos from The Food
Project’s Kitchen
• Fresh fruit
• Baked goods from the Haley House Bakery
• Bread from Clear Flour Bakery
• Flowers from the Food Project’s farm
• Honey collected from bees on the group’s Lincoln farm
• Information from community and health organizations
• Entertainment from local artists and musicians
The Food Project accepts WIC, food stamps (EBT), cash and debit purchases.
