Signs and Symptoms

Many people with PAD have no symptoms. Therefore, if you have major risk factors of PAD – smoking, diabetes, older than 50 – you should ask your doctor to test for it.

• Intermittent claudication - cramping in the muscles of the leg caused by walking. The pain subsides with rest, but returns when walking is resumed.

• Cold legs or feet

• Sores on the legs or feet that heal slowly or not at all

• Change in color in the skin of the feet

• Decreased hair growth on the toes and legs

• Changes in the toenails

• Foot or toe pain at rest
