Take the test

The gold standard test for peripheral arterial disease is the ankle-brachial index (ABI), a painless noninvasive test that compares the blood pressure in the arm to the blood pressure in the leg. Sometimes a resting measurement is taken, followed by walking on a treadmill for a few minutes or until the point of pain, after which another measurement is taken.

ABI =
Ankle systolic pressure
Arm systolic pressure

0.91 – 0.99 Borderline
0.41 – 0.90 Mild to moderate PAD
0.00 – 0.40 Severe PAD
