Signs and Symptoms

Symptoms of heart failure are often overlooked or attributed to other conditions, such as old age or a cold or the flu. It is important to recognize the symptoms and seek medical attention right away.

• Shortness of breath (after exertion or at rest)

• Fatigue and weakness

• Swelling in the feet, legs or abdomen

• Reduced ability to exercise

• Sudden weight gain from fluid retention


• Cough producing frothy or pinkish sputum
