Signs and Symptoms

Colorectal cancer is a silent disease — in the early stages, there are no symptoms. That is why screening is important. As the cancer progresses, the symptoms may include:

• A change in bowel habits

• Blood in the stool — may be bright red or very dark

• Diarrhea or constipation

• Stools that are more narrow than usual

• Feeling that the bowel does not completely empty

• Weight loss for no known reason

• Abdominal discomfort, including gas pains, cramps or bloating

• Fatigue
