Prescription Access Litigation

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Prescription Access Litigation LLC (PAL) uses class action litigation and public education to challenge illegal pharmaceutical industry marketing and pricing practices that raise the cost of prescription drugs and promote unnecessary drug use.  PAL is a nationwide coalition of more than 130 organizations, including consumer, senior citizen, heath care, labor, legal services, and women's health advocacy organizations in 36 states and the District of Columbia.   PAL is a project of Community Catalyst, Inc., a national non-profit health care advocacy organization. 

Responsibilities: 

The Communications and Coalition Coordinator is responsible for implementing PAL’s communications plans (including print and electronic publications and press outreach) and for overseeing the PAL coalition (including recruitment and member involvement)

 

Communications

· Manage PAL’s website and blog, including writing and editing content and coordinating submissions by PAL staff and others.

· Write, design and edit PAL print materials, including fact sheets, flyers and annual newsletter.

· Act as first point of contact for consumers and media inquiries.

· Catalogue electronic and hard copy press clips and PAL research files.

· Maintain PAL press lists and assist with media outreach plans.

· Serve on the Community Catalyst Communications Team, which provides expertise and support for organization-wide communications goals and strategies.

· Represent PAL at conferences, meetings and presentations to potential PAL coalition members.

· Assist in organizing PAL events, including the PAL Annual Dinner, regional meetings and telephone/web conferences.

 

Coalition Management

· Build and maintain relationships with grassroots organizations in PAL’s coalition.

· Coordinate aggressive recruitment of new organizations to the PAL coalition, with a focus on labor unions, union benefit funds and non-profit health plans.

· Perform outreach to recruit coalition members to join PAL cases and other campaigns.

· Identify coalition prospects through research and networking with current PAL coalition members.

· Provide technical assistance to PAL coalition members on media outreach, public education and campaign involvement.

Other Responsibilities

· Attend relevant court proceedings.

· Assist with writing and editing of funding proposals, grant reports and fundraising outreach.

· Occasional out-of-state travel.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience with coalition building and recruitment, coordinating advocacy campaigns, and/or community organizing.

· Prior experience or strong familiarity with labor unions and/or union benefit funds preferred.

· Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to establish and maintain relationships with national and state non-profit organizations, unions, reporters and others.

· Experience managing and writing consumer-friendly online content (website, blog) and strong basic technical skills with website and email list management software

· Commitment to social justice.

· Strong public speaking and facilitation skills.

· Able to work independently juggle multiple tasks at once and meet tight deadlines.

· Strong proficiency with standard software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, graphics, desktop publishing and databases.

· Bilingual/bicultural background a plus.

Salary Range:   $42,000 -$47,000 depending on experience
