Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan
Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, a medical instructor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and medical director of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Medicine Consult Service, has been named chief medical officer of Roxbury’s Dimock Community Health Center. She began her new post on Feb 1.
A native of Long Island, N.Y., Minter-Jordan holds bachelor’s and medical degrees from Brown University School of Medicine. She earned her master’s degree in business administration from Johns Hopkins University in 2006.
A primary focus of Minter-Jordan’s administration will be to reinforce the concept of Dimock as a “one-stop shopping” medical center by emphasizing communication among the center’s various programs and medical departments, a goal she said would be aided by the implementation of electronic patient records.
“Dimock is a tremendous community resource and we need to enhance that image,” Minter-Jordan said. “Toward that end, I would like to see our hours of operation expand — at nights and on weekends. Every additional hour we are open makes Dimock even more accessible to our patients.”
The new chief medical officer also wants to strengthen Dimock’s ties to the Boston community.
She is determined to take the lead in that initiative by speaking to churches, schools and other organizations around the city.
“It’s my task to reinforce the exemplary reputation of Dimock and make the people of Roxbury, Dorchester and Jamaica Plain understand that they have access to the highest quality, affordable health care right here in their neighborhood,” she said.
Minter-Jordan and her husband, Lawrence Jordan Jr., director of special education at Gavin Middle School in South Boston, have a 20-month-old daughter named Camille and are expecting their second child. They live in Boston.
