Franklin Park Spring Clean-up
Join with neighbors to rid the park of winter grunge and enjoy the budding trees. We’ll work in the woodlands, around Scarboro Pond, in playgrounds, along trails, and near historic ruins. Bring work gloves and clippers if you have them, there’ll be plenty of tools for those without. Meet at Valley Gates Parking Lot midway along the park road (follow yellow signs) for coffee and donuts, then join a Clean Team. Youth and church groups, families and all ages welcome! 9a.m. – 12 noon. Effective Leadership Development
A community workshop from The Neighborhood Forum. Are you tired of attending every meeting on behalf of your organization? Don’t know how to cultivate new leaders? Attend this training and learn how your organization can develop effective leaders. Topics include communication and decision-making, exploring personal and situational leadership, ways to reward and recognize volunteers and staff, and practical strategies for building cultural competency. Join us for the Museum of African American History’s 2007 Annual Meeting. Guest speaker Dr. Adelaid M. Cromwell reads from her new book. “Unveiled Voices, Unvarnished Memories: The Cromwell Family in Slavery and Segregation 1692- 1972.” Join us as Dr. Cromwell provides an unprecedented view of how one black family thought, strived, and survived in American society from the seventeenth century to the twentieth century. Newton South High School Fashion Show
Fashion Extravaganza Paris Style, friends and members of Newton South High School, NSHS, are celebrating its 1st annual fashion show fundraiser at 7 p.m. in the Seasholes Auditorium at Newton South High School to benefit the Black Student Union. BSU, diverse programs. WCVB-TV Host, Director and Producer of CityLine, Karen Homes Ward is mistress of Ceremonies. “HouseKaake” Rhythm & Blue’s Band with Nathaniel Stringfield straight from the “Jews & Blues” concert will be featured. Come join our dynamic live manikins of students, teachers, and administrative staff as they strut their stuff Paris style. Ticket donations are $10.00 for adults $5.00 for students. Boston’s longest-running open mic spot brings you another important film followed by a brief discussion then the open mic thereafter. Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists, 300 Walnut Ave., Roxbury, 7-9:30 p.m. Free to the public. Hosted by VCR. Featured film: “SLAM”. Starring Saul William & Sonja Sohn. “Slam” tells the story of Ray Joshua, an original, gifted young MC trapped in a war-zone housing project known as Dodge City.
