Veterans to Meet to Discuss Health Care Disparities for African American Veterans
At the William E. Carter American Legion Post No. 16 located at 1531 Blue Hill Ave. in Mattapan starting at 1:30 p.m. there will be a gathering of veterans and community folks to hear the findings from a questionnaire survey that was performed through a collaboration of Tri-Ad Veterans League, Inc., Northeastern University, and the Boston Public Health Commission. Elected officials from the Federal, State and city level as well as community leaders have been invited to meet with veterans.
“The State of Minority Veterans Health Affairs 2007,” is a collaboration of veteran’s organization, individual veterans and community based health care services agencies that recognized health care disparities with the VA health Care System in the Greater Boston area before the high lighting of the Walter Reed Army Hospital crisis. This collaboration is concerned with health care disparities experienced by African American Veterans and have been working together for the last three-years to heighten awareness and to develop solution strategies on the importance of eradicating health disparities through policy changes and the importance of cultural sensitivity when delivering health care.
