Mark Leszczyk
Mark Leszczyk was recently named the new head coach of the Roxbury Community College (RCC) Lady Tigers women’s basketball team.
A resident of Providence, R.I., Leszczyk comes to RCC after three years of coaching the women’s basketball team at Dean College, located in Franklin, Mass. Leszczyk guided Dean to a 55-21 overall record and back-to-back appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXI Division II championship games.
During his tenure at Dean, Leszczyk helped several of his players earn scholarships to Division I and Division II colleges that play at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level. Two of his players earned Academic All-American honors, and six received Athletic Achievement awards from Dean.
“We are extremely happy to have Mark as head coach,” said RCC Athletic Director Keith McDermott. “He has a wealth of experience at successfully building programs and mentoring student-athletes, and we look forward to him duplicating that success here at RCC.”
Prior to Dean, Leszczyk worked as head coach of Our Lady of Fatima High School’s girls’ basketball team for two seasons, during which he guided it to its first ever interscholastic league playoff appearance. The school, based in Warren, R.I., had not won a girls’ basketball game in four years preceding his arrival.
Leszczyk expects that his experience at Our Lady of Fatima will serve him well at RCC.
“Rebuilding is not new for me — I’ve been there before,” said Leszczyk. “I look forward to the challenge, and to giving Boston-area kids another option after high school.”
Leszczyk has high expectations for himself and his new program — his goal is to have the Lady Tigers competing for a championship within three years.
