Learn to Reduce Energy Costs at Energy Savings Open House
With energy costs taking a substantial bite out of Bostonians’ budgets this winter, a free Energy Savings Open House will offer tips and strategies on how to fix drafty windows and doors, identify areas of a home with the greatest potential for energy savings, and find sources of help to reduce utility bills. The event, sponsored by the Boston Building Materials Co-op and the Building Materials Resource Center, will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Curtis Hall, 20 South St., Jamaica Plain. Both homeowners and tenants will receive valuable information to help reduce fuel bills. Participants will not only receive information, but will also be able to ask questions of weatherization experts and see hands-on demonstrations showing how to install and use low-cost materials to stop drafts and keep heat from escaping. Door prizes and giveaways will be offered. The event is accessible by public transportation via MBTA buses 37, 38, and 39. For drivers, off-street parking is available next to Curtis Hall. Maria Shriver will introduce “American Idealist,” a new documentary chronicling the accomplishments of her father, R. Sargent Shriver, who started several programs in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, including the Peace Corps and Head Start.
