Sam Yoon
City Councilor Sam Yoon has been appointed to serve on the Rules Committee for the Democratic National Convention, scheduled to take place from Aug. 25-28 in Denver.
Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean appointed Yoon and called personally to congratulate him.
“The record turnout and enthusiasm we’ve seen for our Democratic candidates is a clear sign that Americans trust Democrats to bring much needed change to our country,” said Dean. “Sam Yoon and our other outstanding appointees reflect the great strength, diversity and energy of the Democratic Party, and I’m confident their efforts will ensure our convention in Denver is reflective of our shared values and our nominee’s vision for America.”
Yoon says he’s grateful for the opportunity.
“I am both humbled and honored for a nomination to such a prestigious position,” said Yoon. “I am excited about being part of a movement to take back the Congress and the White House.”
Only 25 party leaders and elected officials are chosen to serve on the Rules Committee, which is responsible for recommending the rules for the convention, the party and other convention business. It is expected to meet in August prior to the convention.
Yoon, an at-large councilor who represents all nine districts in the City of Boston, became the first Asian American elected to the City Council in 2005 and earned re-election last year. A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, he has been a public school teacher, community organizer and affordable housing advocate. Yoon lives in the Fields Corner neighborhood of Dorchester with his wife Tina and their two children, Nathan and Naomi.
