Temporary Helpline Counselor

HEALTH CARE FOR ALL 

Health Care For All is a leading Massachusetts consumer health care advocacy organization.  We seek a Temporary Helpline Counselor to assist Helpline operations including, but not limited to helping callers access competent, quality health care.  This work combines direct service, advocacy, and public education and policy initiatives to make the system more responsive to consumers.

 

 COMPETENCIES 

  • Experience helping diverse populations navigate the healthcare system
  • Ability to provide thoughtful and complete assistance to callers
  • Computer skills particularly Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, Explorer, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to be calm and respectful with all callers
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to do efficient and effective research
  • Ability to collaborate with HCFA partner organizations
  • Creative and innovative problem solving skills to assist callers
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Understanding of the Massachussetts healthcare system a plus
  • Bilingual (Spanish and/or Portuguese) language capacity a plus

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide callers with clear and informative information that is best suited to their health care needs
  • Provide screening and direct enrollment to clients over the phone utilizing an in-house technological tool
  • Maintain an updated and valuable resource manual
  • Provide HCFA with names, numbers, and stories of callers that can be helpful to campaigns and to the media
  • Provide HCFA with weekly reports of all calls received
  • Provide customer service with respect and care to all callers
  • Coordinate interns and volunteers for Helpline capacity
  • Do strategic outreach coordination with the Helpline manager
  • To maintain and efficient, well-developed database
  • To be comfortable in screening and providing direct enrollment to clients over the phone utilizing an in-house technical tool; keep updated informational materials to be sent to clients
  • Work to increase call volume by using effective outreach in underserved populations
  • To create innovative and efficient ways of handling calls
  • To build an online community from the Helpline Online consumer database
  • To be responsible for answering all received calls within twenty-four hours

Salary:                                    $30,000-$33,000
