Beverly Herbert
Boston native Beverly Herbert, director of development and external communications at The Association For Community Living in Springfield, Mass., recently earned her Certified Fund Raising Executives (CFRE) certification.
This designation certifies fundraising professionals who have demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the highest standards of ethical and professional practice in serving the philanthropic sector.
A driven fundraiser and philanthropist, Herbert has worked at The Association For Community Living since 2000. Since her arrival, The Association — which has served adults and children with developmental disabilities since 1952 — has raised millions of dollars for critical programmatic and operational needs.
Through Herbert’s leadership, The Association has created a planned giving program and a permanent endowment fund that will enable the organization to provide its services for years to come.
Herbert attended Boston Girls’ Latin School before engaging in postsecondary study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and the Gordon-Cornwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass., earning Bachelor of Science, Master of City Planning and Master of Divinity degrees. She has trained business leaders, served in churches, communicated with international audiences and written for trade and local publications.
An ordained minister in the A.M.E. Zion Church, Herbert serves as associate pastor of Gardner Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Springfield.
In addition to her pastoral duties and delivering lectures at local colleges and seminaries, she is a member of the development committee of Valley Community Development Corporation in Northampton, Mass., and sits on the board of directors of The Black Inventors and Scientists, based in Amherst, Mass.
