Roxbury native Moran named Tremont credit union’s VP

BRAINTREE — Roxbury native William A. Moran has been appointed vice president of community and government affairs for Tremont Credit Union (TCU), President Len Broderick announced Monday.

A TCU board member from 1993 to 2005 who served as chairman from 2003-2004, Moran has for the past year served as the credit union’s community affairs advisor and “over the past decade,” said Broderick in a statement, “been an integral part of Tremont’s growth.”

“As vice president of community and government affairs, Bill will continue to cultivate TCU’s growth in Boston as a community-focused financial institution,” said Broderick.

Moran played a key role in forging TCU’s partnership with the Boston Community Development Collaborative, a faith-based economic development organization. Inked in December 2006, the Community Financial Partnership was one of the country’s first collaborations between a credit union and a faith-based organization, and operates out of TCU’s new Dudley Square branch office on 41 Warren Street. The goal of the partnership is to help develop economic self-sufficiency for adults, youths and families in low- to moderate-income families in Boston.

In his new role, Moran says he’s looking forward to bringing a higher quality of customer service to folks in the neighborhoods he knows so well.

“People in Boston’s working class neighborhoods are frustrated with the impersonal service they receive at the typical large financial institution,” he said. “Our goal is to bring back the true community aspect of banking. People should know that the money they are investing is not only benefiting them, but also benefiting their neighbors.”

Moran has been personally invested in Boston’s neighborhoods his entire career. Born and raised in Roxbury and a 1988 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Boston, Moran served as a middle school teacher for 25 years, teaching mathematics and social studies at James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury, Edwards Middle School in Charlestown and Solomon Lewenberg Middle School in Mattapan. As a teacher, Moran received numerous awards, including the prestigious U.S. Department of Education Professional Development Award.

Moran currently resides in Milton with his wife, Juliet, and his four sons.
