Berklee’s Women Musicians Network Presents Its 11th Annual Concert
Berklee’s Women Musicians Network (WMN) is proud to announce its 11th annual concert, at the Berklee Performance Center. The concert includes artists in styles ranging from blues and rock, to alternative folk, jazz, and contemporary classical. The show is composed, arranged, produced, and performed by Berklee women students under the direction of faculty members Lucy Holstedt and Christiane Karam. This year’s concert features a guest appearance by alumna MIDI marimba player Vessela Stoyanova with her rock band Fluttr Effect. WMN also welcomes back Boston-based worldbeat band Zili Misik. The Women Musicians Network concert is $10, all ages, and begins at 8:15 p.m., at the Berklee Performance Center, located at 136 Massachusetts Ave., Boston. Kim McLarin Speaks at Hibernian Hall
The Roxbury Center for Arts at Hibernian Hall and ACT Roxbury are pleased to present Kim McLarin, noted author, journalist and host of the WGBH-TV series “Basic Black,” at 6pm. The talk is a part of the Roxbury discussion series and will be presented at Hibernian Hall, 184 Dudley St. in Roxbury. Ticket fee is $5 for each person. Kim McLarin reads from “Jump at the Sun.” 6:30 p.m. Museum of African American History, Abiel Smith School Gallery, 46 Joy St., Beacon Hill, Boston. This novel intertwines the stories of three generations of African American mothers and daughters, each in her own way both enduring and challenging the legacy of slavery. “Jump at the Sun” was chosen by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association as a 2007 Fiction Honor book and the Massachusetts Center for the Book as the 2007 MA Book Awards Fiction Honor book. Mayor Menino to Kick-off Free Symposium for Youth Workers
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the City of Boston’s Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) are hosting the second annual Youth Worker and Youth Care Provider Symposium, “Be The Change We Want To See,” from 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The goal of this free symposium is to introduce citywide and neighborhood-based youth workers and youth care providers to each other so they can develop a consistent process for networking, partnership-building and strategy development. Mayor Menino and BCYF Executive Director Daphne Griffin will kick-off the Symposium at 9 a.m. The day will consist of guest speakers – including Keynote Deborah Prothrow-Stith — workshops, group discussions, presentations, and an award ceremony.
