Join City Mothers On A Mission for its First
Violence Prevention Summit.
City Mothers on a Mission (CMOM) is hosting a Violence Prevention Summit open to mothers and women of Boston who are concerned about the rising incidences of violence among youth in communities in and around Boston. Summit convener Senator Dianne Wilkerson encourages women to join the discussion to rebuild stronger, healthier and safer communities though a holistic approach focusing on parents and families. Keynote speakers include First Lady Diane Patrick, Reverend Dr. Renita Weems, Reverend Liz Walker and others. Friday, August 3. 6-10 p.m. Registration/check-in at 3:00 pm. Dinner will be provided. Saturday, August 4. 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Registration/check-in at 7:30 am. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. Childcare available for both Friday and Saturday. Cambridge Health Alliance Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week with Family Event
In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, the Baby-Friendly Committee of Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) will host a free family event from 1–4 p.m. at CHA’s Cambridge Hospital campus. The public is invited to learn about various organizations that help breastfeeding moms and families. CHA staff will be available to answer questions. The event will also include refreshments and door prizes and is co-sponsored by the Cambridge-Somerville WIC Program. The Cambridge Hospital, 3rd Floor Atrium, 1493 Cambridge St., Cambridge. Free Basketball Coaching Workshop
Please join Boston Centers for Youth & Families and the Metro Boston Coaches Academy for a one-day clinic on Saturday, August 4th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Tobin Community Center, 1483 Tremont St., Roxbury. This workshop is geared towards coaches of all levels (those who want to learn how to coach and those who have coached for years) and will focus on such topics as: developing a winning coaching philosophy, communication & motivation techniques (beyond yelling!), and other topics that will help coaches in developing successful programs. A Free Evening of Cool Jazz at Roxbury’s Highland Park Annual Jazz at the Fort Concert
Berklee College of Music and ParkARTS present an evening of jazz in Roxbury’s historic Fort Hill neighborhood with Gabrielle Goodman and opener the Curtis Warren Quintet starting at 5 p.m. The annual Jazz at the Fort concert is free and will be held weather permitting at the four-acre Highland Park on Fort Avenue. Staff Art Exhibition
The 26th annual Staff Art Exhibition celebrates work by employees of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. With their days dedicated to the service of art, and their nights to creating it, these artists present a variety of work in both medium and concept. Help select the People’s Choice Award winner and vote for your favorite work at the opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Five additional prizes will be awarded by a 3-person jury. An Evening with Filmmaker Les Blank
A very special evening with Filmmaker Les Blank. Landmarks Festival at the Shell
